This new technology is gaining momentum with U.S. Wireless Carriers as multimedia (rich media content) migrates to PDAs and Smartphones. 3GPP (simply referred to as 3G) is the worldwide standard for the delivery and playback of rich media over Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) networks, which are the most popular type of 3Gs installed worldwide.
GSM subscribers account for more than 850 million of the world's wireless users across 174 countries. It is available from AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. From 2005 to 2007 more US cities gained 3G access and now in 2008 more devices will be available to access this advanced network. With unique requirements of various mobile devices 3G media technology is based upon MPEG-4.
